daityAs : The Daitya Hiranyakasipu, the son of Diti (finite) and Kasyapa, the brother of Hiranyaksha, father of Prahlada, (and the father-in-law of Bhrgu or of Sukra – I need to verify), was killed by Narasimha.
Our legends also tell us that Kasyapa had 13 wives and all of them were Daksha‘s daughters. aditi’s children were the Adityas, diti’s children were the daityAs, danU’s children were the dAnavAs, manu’s children were the mAnavAs… and so on. Even the rakshasas, nagas, Jatayu, Garuda (and other birds) are all Kasyapa’s descendants by his other wives. It is thus suggested to us that all in the animate world are the children of ‘The one who sees”.
The Daityas are thus sons of Kashyapa Prajapati and step brothers of the Adityas. Since Aditi and Diti are sisters and daughters of Daksha Prajapati, daityAs and AdityAs are also first cousins besides being step brothers. They are genetically of the same stock. As children of Kasyapa and Diti they are also genetically brahmans. In fact as per the Srimad Bhagavatham, there was only 1 varnam in Krutha Yuga.
