For centuries folk songs emerged from folk people… farmers, hunters and such like.
Such songs were an expression of their feelings, ideas and aspirations.
When big money entered music as for example in the Indian Movie Industry, you had music written for the people by people from the side of the big money.
If the song writer/music composer is good, you would have a perceptive song that resonates in the heart of the folk people.
Else, you may have a song that is ‘sold’ to the people via glamourous actors, grand locales, provocative words and great voices and instruments. These songs do not seek to express, they seek to attract/appeal/influence and earn fame/money. They may result in selling an aspiration that the people never had and in ‘telling them what to feel and think’.
